Jersey Pistol Club

It was sunday morning the sun was bright but the temperature is cold. From the Durrell-ITC we headed towards Green road, St. Clement. before we started we the proper pistol shooting, Derek warmly welcome us and gave a short lecture about pistols and its advantages as well as the responsible handling of the material. The main thing that I wrote in my travellers notebook is to treat every gun as though it is loaded.

I had a great experience it was my first time to actually fire a gun. being able to fire a gun gives you a sense of confidence and courage. I dont know about others but its just the way i felt.

I have fired three types of gun unfortunately i cant remember their names.

La Rocque Harbour, St. Clement, Jersey, UK

Platte Rocque Tower replaced the guardhouse that was captured by the french invasion force of 1781 on the evening before the Battle of jersey. It was built, as were other Jersey towers, on the design of Colonel C W Pasley.

It was sunday morning 2th of February. The DESMAN 2012 participant boarded the DURRELL-ITC mini bus to La rocque harbour for a wader watching. Among the species that we bserved during that time are the following; Grey Heron, Little Egret,Spoonbill, Brent Goose, Red-breasted Merganser, Oystercatcher,Redshank, Harring gull, Turnstone, Dunlin, and Shag.

This part of Jersey's eastern coastline is renowned for its variety of wintering shorebirds. Between the months of October and March, many thousands of Brent geese and wading birds are attracted to the area where they can be observed, either feeding or roosting in the vicinity.

My travellers notebook is of real great help in making me remember the things I need to write. I am realistic that I can have that slr canon camera to photograph the exciting moments to remember

An hour away from Cagayan de Oro City. We travelled 30 minutes from Naawan the next town after Initao. Its like a paradise hailed as one of the most treasured gems in the Philippines and may be one of the top most visited tourist destination in the Philippines.

This was taken using a very expensive camera, I think its a slr camera.

My family, relatives and friends enjoy the beautiful scenery ans refreshing air that carressed your face in the early morning. We stayed in Midway Beach resort over the night after my brothers wedding in Manticao.

Mantigue Island, Camiguin, Philippines

I travelled to Mantigue Island on September 2009. The weather condition was so fine, you can feel the warmth of the sun. Around 8 am in the morning we rented a small "banka" or boat to go to the island, the rent then was 500 pesos for 6 people. The person owning the banka will wait for you until you all return to the mainland of Camiguin.

As we approach the island, you can see the very white sand, that enveloped the area. It was sooo white. It was surrounded by a gleaming white beach of powdery coral sand. I hope I had then my expensive slr canon camera.

Going into these island is not on our plan, but stories of its beauty has made us wondered and explored the island. It was all worth it.

St. Brelade's Parish, St. Brelade, Jersey, UK

It was cold saturday afternoon, when Bob took us to the oldest church in Jersey. It just took us about 15 minutes travel from Greve de Lecq Barracks, St. Mary to St. Brelade, Jersey. It was built in the 11th century. The church was so magnifient, that it reveals the strong engineering design of that time. It was strategically placed that it can withstand the test of time.

These shows the list of the priest that has governed the church. Which dates back as far as the 12th century. It used to be a Roman catholic church, but now it is by angelican church.

On its back is the St. Brelades Bay.
On front of it is the Oak tree of 350 years old. The two Oak tree is believed to be planted together at the same time.
On its corner is the farmers chapel with the medieval paintings.

Greve de Lecq Barracks, St. Mary, Jersey

It was Saturday morning, February 26, 2012. We are scheduled to go out with Bob- a member of the Commonwealth royal society of Jersey & a very close friend of DESMAN. The scheduled time is 9:40am but the weather is very foggy, its 200 meters visibility. So we moved our schedule to 11:00 am. Luckily, the weather gets better and the fogs is not that thick anymore. We went to many places, then at lunch the Bob treat us in Collen's restaurant at Greve de Lecq Barracks at St. Mary.

This is the view heading towards the Greve de Lecq Barracks.

I choose these very delicious Gamon steak with egg served with chips and salads at 8.45 pounds. Its really expensive, anyway its Bobs treat. This actually ham with egg on top.

And this Bob, 92 years old but very strong and drive us around the island of Jersey. He used to be a history teacher, so when you talk to him you got a load of history. Then I ask him "What is the secret of long life? he answered that every time he receives the Jersey post, he looks at the list of persons who died and if he cant find his name on it, he still got another 24 hours to live. My second question was "What lesson you want to leave to the new generations? He answered a lesson for all generations should live, that is a concern for other people. You must treat other people as how you want to be treated. And then I said thank you Bob.

This is the Collens Restaurant, just in front the coast.

Devils Hole, Jersey, UK

Map of Devi'ls Hole, St. Mary, Jersey, United Kingdom. I almost forgot my travellers notebook, but i was able to grabbed them. It was named as Devils hole maybe because of its devilish road that perhaps only the devil can pass because its so narrow.
On the upper part of the devils hole, there are shrubs called the gorse i forgot that plant. It has over grown already, and its no longer suitable habitat for wild birds. It was a monthly volunteering activity of the Jersey Residents, to cut these shrubs for conservation.
These are the DESMAN 2012 who participated in the cutting of that old shrub that are no longer suitable habitat for birds. I really enjoy the activity, cutting the shrubs onto small pieces. It emphasis the spirit of volunteerism. If people will just give an hour of a month, a lot will be accomplished.

St. Helier, Jersey, Channel Islands, United Kingdom

On our way to St. Helier we ride a bus from the Durrell Wildlife Zoo. The Bus leaves at exactly 9:45 am.. So were running to the bus station because the bus was already at the station. At around 9:50 we are already at the Liberation Station. The bus fair was 1.70 pounds, quite expensive for a very short ride. The bus station is just very organized. Just behind the Liberation Station, is the Liberation square and just beside it is the harbour.

Walking along the busy streets of St. Helier looking for good shoes.

At the harbour just besides the Liberation square.

Zoavina and I at the front, Pedro from the Dominican Republic and Susan from Hongkong are behind us. My travellers notebook is always on my bag.

Walking along the streets of Trinity, Jersey, United Kingdom

The streets in Jersey is quite narrow with my best travellers notebook. It isn't big enough that the maximum speed is only 40-60 kilometers per hour. When you are walking with big groups you should walk in line.

The people walking are some of the 15 participants of the DESMAN 2012. First on the line was Zoavian from Madagascar, followed by me from the Philippines, 3rd is Vijaya from Sri lanka, 4th is Dany from Mauritius and 5th is Dave from Columbia. We are lead by Josh the Les Noyers hostel manager to the Pub.

The pub in UK is like the park in the Philippines, although I don't really agree on it. From Les Noyers the pub is 10-15 minutes walking under the 1-2 Celsius temperature.

Jersey, United Kingdom

I arrive in Jersey, Channel Islands, United Kingdom on February 4, 2012 at Jersey Airport with my travelers notebook. The weather is very cold, its on 2-4 celsius. Its my first time to be out of my country. The woman who fetch me at the airport is Siam.. she was so kind and warm and help me feel very at home. I was then housed at Les Noyers, the accommodation center for visitors of the Durrell Wildlife Conservation Trust is being housed. Josh the Hostel Manager accommodated me, and show me my warm room. After a few refreshments, Josh served a delicious meal. Enough to take my hunger away, and ready for a long sleep. And sleep indeed
